128
"Project 128" — that is 150 USB sticks and a blog.
128mb, a stick, and a lot of room for ideas. What are you going to make of
it?
Maybe you will find files on your stick. These files have been passed on to you by the previous holders of the stick. Explore how they have filled the space available to them with ideas. Take your share of the 128mb-space and fill it with data that the world should see. Use the access information engraved on the stick to log on to http://128.subnet.at/ and tell your story: how the stick got into your hands, what data you found on the stick and what you have made of your share of the free space. Please consider posting in English. While it may not be the native language of most participants, it is the language with the highest chance of being understood by everyone.
Finally it is your turn to pass the stick on, to whoever you want and in any way you like.
YOU'VE GOT IT - PLUG IT IN
You have found or have been given this stick. We don't know how the stick came into your possession or why. But now the stick and its potential of sharing lie with you. Probably you will find files on the stick. The previous holders of the stick had the intention of passing these files on, so please don't delete them but add to them.
LOAD IT - SHARE IT
Add something to the data on the stick that you would like to pass on - because you like it, because it is strange, or because you simply think that it should be spread. If it's just a single file or a couple of files is not important. Share what you like! An image, a video, a piece of music, a text, or the address of a website. The only things you should mind are not to delete anything from the existing data and to leave some space for those who will hold the stick after you.
LOG ON
You will find the access information imprinted on the stick. The number on the stick is the username with which you can log on to http://128.subnet.at/. There you have the chance to explore the history of your stick: what places it has been to, whose hands and computers it has gone through, what data people want to share with it and why. You can find your stick by looking through the numbers next to the postings or by using the menu on the right.
By using the imprinted access information you can log on and post your own story: How did the stick get into your hands? What data have you found on the stick and what do you think of it? What are you going to share on the stick? How are you going to pass it on?
You can check back on http://128.subnet.at/ to trace your stick, and, even a long time after you have passed it on, find out what is happening with your stick.
PASS IT ON
Don't let the stick rot and the potential go to waste. Pass it on!
If you acquire a stick that is so full of data that nothing more can fit, please take a picture of the stick and its surroundings to show us where the stick ended up!
ADVICE
- Before you open any files on the stick, please run them through a virus scanner.
- We initally circulate the sticks without any data. Consequently we cannot take any responsiblity for the data on the stick.
- You, as the holder of the stick, are responsible for the data you share. We do not encourage or support violation of legal or social norms. Please use the stick responsibly!
